Book Room #11: Jessica Westhead

Novelist, editor and short story writer, Jessica Westhead joined me in the Book Room on the very day that Toronto's Union Station went under water. Is that symbolic or meaningful in any way? Probably.

I think it shows how nothing can stop Jessica Westhead from leading her generation of young fictioneers. All she needs is a sturdy pair of rubber boots and her keen eye for the idiosyncrasies of the mundane and quotidian.

Westhead's latest work, And Also Sharks (Cormarant Books Inc.) was shortlisted for the 2012 Danuta Gleed Award for short fiction from the Writers Union of Canada.

We talk writing, editing, traveling, author photographing, cover designing - and there is at least one reference to mashed potatoes. Why don't you have a listen?

As well, if you are so inclined please subscribe to The Book Room podcast on iTunes. That will bring each new interview and reading directly to your connected device. You will also find the entire back catalogue of podcast episodes at this link.
