Continuing in the mysterious intersection between fiction and history theme, the news today is filled with reports of how former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic, already indicted and held responsible by the International Court in The Hague for his part in ordering the deadly siege of Sarajevo, has been captured in Belgrade. Apparently, Mr. Karadzic lived for more than a decade as a completely fictional character in the Serbian capital, evading capture despite persistent rumours of his whereabouts.
The siege of Sarajevo, which took place between 1992 and 1996, is the historical setting for Canadian author Steven Galloway's bestselling The Cellist of Sarajevo, discussed in the posting below.
