rest in peace Charles Oberdorf

There's a wonderful remembrance in the Globe and Mail of Canadian magazine writer, editor, television producer and teacher Charles Oberdorf, who died last Friday after a decade-long struggle with COPD.

I didn't get a chance to speak to Mr. Oberdorf enough, but I was privileged to be in the room with him for many meetings during my own magazine years. I saw him last at the National Magazine Awards, where he took the stage, trailing an oxygen tank, to receive a lifetime achievement award. That was years ago and even though he was clearly not doing well, he held the audience with his words. The cultural sector is poorer for his absence.
