on the road

Folks enjoying the late August perfection of northern Ontario might want to look in on the Sleeping Giant Writers Festival running this coming weekend in Thunder Bay. Sleeping Giant is more about learning and skills development than it is about listening to authors read, and the line-up this year makes for some difficult choices between competing talks. Here's a shortlist of personalities and subject matter:

Scott Steedman - The Author-Editor Relationship
Leilah Nadir - Memoir and Narrative Truth
Sheree-Lee Olson - Mini-memoir and Self Editing
Fred Stenson - Historical Fiction
Betsy Struthers - Poetic Voice and Re/Vision
Moira Farr - Outdoor Writing and Non-fiction
Linda L. Richards - Mystery, Thriller, and Interviewing
Lynn Coady - Driving Characters and Killing your Darlings

Keynote talk by Mr. Nightly Broadcast, Peter Mansbridge, who will be discussing Canada and Canadians in a Changing World.

I am heading up to the festival today, with stops in Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie for OAC business. I accept any and all restaurant suggestions.
